PechaKucha Mark 3

So every time I do one of these I swear that it’s the last, but I do agree with my tutor the last version could be improved on. The format, 20 seconds per slide, is some of the problem, it encourages choppy disjointed speech and panic as the time advances. I had a pretty good idea which images would work but this time I wrote the script first to work out what I was going to say. This encouraged me to describe the project more expansively. I then chopped the text up into 20 little speeches, swapping it around a bit to be coherent and assigning images to each little speech.

I’ve discovered that if I make the PechaKucha with PowerPoint I can have videos which is much more interesting and allows me to show a lot more in the 6minute 40 seconds that I’m allowed. I recorded everything then discovered that there was some tension between my elderly Mac and the modern version of PowerPoint which meant that I couldn’t get my presentation off the computer. Fortunately I managed to screen capture using Quick Time which gave me the images but no speech. I imported the video into iMovie and re recorded for what felt like the 100th time.

It is easier to record with iMovie because the images played along smoothly which meant that the talking flowed a bit better. I did stop and re record when I fell over my words too many times but there are still some stumbles. It’s not perfect but I’m bowing out now as I’m exhausted and its only going to get worse. I really don’t know why the power of speech leaves me when I have to read out loud.

It’s too big a file for Blogger so I’ve uploaded it to Vimeo here
