Ethical checklist
Does the project (research/working process/final outcomes) pose any risks or cause harm to others? You’ll need to do a risk assessment to help answer this question.
Yes / No
Does your project involve people, for example interviews, questionnaires, recording or photographing others?
Yes /
I draw and observe people. I am discrete and I try to be sensitive to their feelings.
Does your project cover any sensitive areas that others might find offensive or could trigger a negative response? This could include how you’ve chosen to represent people through your work.
I aim not to draw recognisable likenesses if I use drawings of people in my project. I don't intend to create anything controversial though I will review any work when it is finished
Does your project involve children, vunerable adults or animals?
It depends on where it goes but I will only make drawings and I will ensure that they won't be recognisable.
Does the project involve dangerous substances, processes or practices?
Does the project use covert information-gathering or deception?
Yes / No
I draw covertly but discretely and would make my images unrecognisable to participants unless I had their consent.
My project may potentially have more ethical issues than I had envisioned. I will need to be mindful of the potential to cause distress and ensure that any participants are unrecognisable or that I obtain their consent to be included.
